Our commitment

Rare Aves Journal is committed to publishing accurate, verifiable information about rare and endangered bird species. Every article is fact-checked before publication.

Source hierarchy

  1. Peer-reviewed scientific literature (Web of Science, JSTOR, direct journal access).
  2. IUCN Red List species assessments (most recent version).
  3. Government wildlife agency data (DOC NZ, USFWS, etc.).
  4. Named field biologists and long-running conservation NGOs.
  5. Reputable ornithological media (Cornell Lab, BirdLife International).

We do not use Wikipedia, forum posts, or unattributed blog content as primary sources.

Verification steps

  • Every quantitative claim (population counts, ranges, dates) is checked against at least two independent sources.
  • Direct quotes are verified against the original recording or transcript.
  • Images are captioned with species identification confirmed by our reviewer.

Corrections

Errors are corrected promptly. Substantive corrections are noted at the top of the affected article and dated. If the correction is significant we re-share the updated piece on our channels.

Report an inaccuracy

Please email corrections@rareavesjournal.example with the article URL, the specific claim in question, and a source we can review.
