Our editorial standards

Every article on Rare Aves Journal is written or reviewed by a working ornithologist and follows a documented editorial process.

Sourcing

  • We prefer primary peer-reviewed literature and official IUCN Red List assessments.
  • We name field biologists and their affiliations wherever possible.
  • We link to every non-obvious factual claim.

Review process

Draft → structural review → factual review by a subject expert → copy-edit → publication. Pillar articles receive an additional pre-publication read-through by an outside contributor with relevant field experience.

Updates

Every article carries a "Published" and "Updated" date. Meaningful changes are logged inline as a correction note; typographical fixes are silent.

Independence

Advertisers, affiliates and sponsors have no input into editorial decisions. Sponsored content, if it ever appears, will be clearly labelled and separated from editorial.

AI use

We do not publish AI-generated articles. AI tools may be used for research assistance, grammar checks and image sourcing, but every claim is human-verified and every article is human-written.

Diversity of sources

We actively seek expertise from ornithologists working in the countries where the species live, not only from Western institutions.
