Independent reporting on the world's rarest birds.
Rare Aves Journal is an independent publication founded in 2026 to cover rare, endangered and little-known bird species with the depth they deserve. We report from the field, cite our sources, and update our guides as new science emerges.
Our mission
Rare birds get news coverage only when they are dying — a single extinction, a single record sighting. We think the story is richer than that. Our mission is to give readers durable, expert reference material on the species that are hardest to see and hardest to save.
What we publish
- Pillar species guides based on primary literature and field observation.
- Conservation reporting on active recovery programmes.
- Explainers making peer-reviewed research readable.
- Interviews with working field biologists.
How we're funded
We are reader-supported and independently owned. When we display advertising, it is served through Google AdSense and clearly labelled. Advertisers have no influence over editorial decisions.
